An Invitation to find comfort in the unknown.

Ode to Gray

There is a world that resides between Black and White that is known as Gray.

Poor sweet Gray has been vilified, cast out, shunned. The neglected stepchild born of an illicit affair between Day and Night.

Humans resist Gray. Gray clouds, gray hair, the gray of not knowing what is right, what is wrong.

Grayness resides in depression, it lurks in confusion, it is the invisible mask of no direction, the lack of a map.

Humans long for certainty, clarity, strong opinions, and polarity.

Tell me, oh Universe, what to think, what to feel, what to Be.

Keep me Young and strong, oh G-d. I will do anything not to be thrust into the Graying of age- cast out and useless. Irrelevant and unwanted. A sad reminder of the fading light of youth.

Me, I am falling deeply, heartbreakingly in Love with Gray. Learning to celebrate the Gray of not knowing. Discovering there can be comfort in discomfort.

Gray is the divine love child of the achromatic marriage of Black and White. The promise of new beginnings from which all the colors of the rainbow arise.
